MadCool Festival versus Field Day Festival

Summer Festivals can be divided in two clases: city festivals and greenfield festivals. The good thing about city festivals is that you don’t need to camp. It feels so good when you reach your bed after 12 hours non stop singing and dancing. They turn to be cleaner too as people would have had a proper shower before going to the festival the following day (and for hot summer Spanish festivals, this makes it completely different).

I have been living in London for some months already and I have been wondering how a London city festival would look like. Will they be comparable to Spanish venues? Will people shout, dance and drink as much as we do? At what time will the festival close every night? How big are London -based festivals? Just to answer all these questions and to do a high quality experiment (don’t forget I am a scientist), I decided to pick two different venues, one in London and one in Madrid, what could those two festivals be?

This June a new promising festival has been organised: MadCool fest. There have been some attempts to develop music festivals in the past (El Día del la Música and Dcode among others). However, they were conceived with a different purpose. Designed to host 45,000 people, five stages, and an unprecedented line up with artists such as Neil Young, Kings of Convenience or Stereophonics. A three day festival that seems unforgettable.

As for London, I have carefully analysed some candidates Sharing the same features and my vote goes for the Field Day Festival. A two day festival in Victoria park with five stages. It is one of the favourite for Time Out’s critic, it covers an alternative music spectrum that very much fits my taste -from indie to folk. I just can’t wait to see Beach House or Adam Green live.

Will there be any similarities between the Field Day and the MadCool? Will there be any difference? I am afraid we will have to wait to the end of June to find out.
